The annual Rotary Convention provides a great opportunity to learn from clubs around the world. One of our best “finds” this year was Teacher in a Box. A club in Paddington NSW Australia has developed an innovative approach to delivering education in remote areas where internet is unavailable or unreliable. Our club members have visited these types of places and will continue to do so. Having the ability to deliver a Teacher in the Box server when we travel sounds like a great idea for our club.
We’re in the process of launching our first partnership with the Teacher in the Box team to deliver a fully loaded server to a school in Ethiopia. Pictured are our team that’s making it happen: Tom, who’s our “man on the ground” in Ethiopia; Debbie Kornhauser who’s our liaison; Melanie DeLuca who found this great project and is coordinating with the Australia team; and our true tech wizard, Bill Falk. Bill spent countless hours correctly configuring donated laptops and learning how the program works so he could train Tom.
We’re excited about the possibilities for our club’s partnership with Teacher in a Box and look forward to sharing the results of this initial effort.
