Our Summer Social and Service Weekend is August 13 to 15, 2026, in the Alexandria area of Central Minnesota. We’re finalizing plans now, so if you haven’t filled out the short questionnaire yet, please do so. We need your response to complete our arrangements and run the home-hosting lottery.

Where We’re Headed

Alexandria lies about two hours northwest of Minneapolis, surrounded by more than 300 lakes. It’s known as “The Lakes Area,” and once you arrive, you’ll understand why. Wide-open skies, pine-edged waters, and a slower pace that will make your trip well worth it.

The town of around 14,000 has a surprisingly rich history. It’s home to the Kensington Runestone, a controversial artifact that some claim proves Norse explorers reached the region in 1362, centuries before European settlement. Whether you believe it or not, it makes for a great conversation over dinner.

Weather in mid-August is mild, typically in the mid-70s (25-28C). Perfect for being outdoors! Be sure to bring sunscreen.

This year’s gathering combines three things our members love most: service, friendship, and fun.

Thursday & Friday: Serve and Explore

We’re building on the success of our Habitat for Humanity projects from the past two years by offering half-day Habitat build shifts on both Thursday and Friday.

Participants can choose a Habitat shift and pair it with a half-day social activity led by fellow Global Travelers members.

Other activities you might want to pursue in the area include:

  • Sailing
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Biking
  • Boating

…and more. So whether you’d rather swing a hammer, cast a fishing line, pedal a scenic trail, or learn a new skill, there will be something for everyone.

The fun continues into the evenings with a potluck at Mary Jane’s cabin near Battle Lake and a winery outing, giving everyone plenty of time to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

Saturday: A Day at the Lake

On Saturday, we’ll gather at the DeLuca cabin in Barrat for a full day of fellowship, food, and lakeside fun.

Come for:

  • Brunch at 10:00 a.m.
  • Activities throughout the day
  • A barbecue dinner at 4:00 p.m.
  • And as much porch-sitting, dock-lounging, and catching up as you can fit in

This is the perfect opportunity for members who can’t attend the entire weekend. Join us for Saturday only, or make it a full three-day getaway.

Why You Won’t Want to Miss It

The Summer Social and Service Weekend offers a chance to spend leisurely time with fellow club members, deepen friendships, welcome new members into the fold, swing a hammer for a family in need of a home, and experience the unique spirit that makes our club so special.

To help our planning team, please complete the survey ASAP and book your tickets. We look forward to seeing you in Alexandria!
