Several times a year, our geographically dispersed Rotary club embarks on a virtual service project to serve the world together — separately.

September is designated as Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month. This is an opportunity for us to raise awareness and take action through October 4.

Here’s how:

  • Identify needs where Rotary support can contribute or create meaningful partnerships with local education authorities. These may be to support children, adults, or refugees.
  • Volunteer at your local library or school if they need Reading Mentors.
  • Find a local STEM program in your area to volunteer or donate items needed.
  • Donate books or school supplies at your local schools, hospitals, or book drop-off locations.
  • Start or join a Book Club.
  • Support the Rotary Foundation as they advocate for education through scholarships, donations, and service projects around the world.
  • Join or support Rotarians in the Basic Education & Literacy Rotary Action Group for support on education and literacy grants and/or projects. You can make a donation on the Rotary.org website under Donate/Areas of Focus.

Submit your photos and stories from September 8 through October 4 to Michelle Dusek. You can find her email address in Ignite.
