Contrasts of Japan: Feudal Castles & Modern Marvels

Japan is endlessly fascinating, with so much to see. We’re offering two different choices in 2027. The fall trip features lots of nature and hiking with more off-the-beaten path destinations. This spring trip is more traditional. We’ll visit Tokyo, Matsumoto, Kyoto, and Hiroshima during the tail-end of cherry blossom season. Plus organizer Jelan Heidelberg and her husband Jim plan to arrive early and attend a Japanese baseball game (a unique, amazing experience). You’re welcome to join us.

This is a fundraising trip. The maximum number of travelers is 16. If we get at least 11 Global Travelers (or your family and friends), we get about 8-9% for our club’s Grants and Service Fund.

The itinerary includes:

  • 3 nights in Tokyo
  • 2 nights in Matsumoto
  • 4 nights in Kyoto
  • 2 nights in Hiroshima

Transportation between cities is via Japan’s famous train system, including a bullet train from Kyoto to Hiroshima.

We’ll have the same Trip Experience Leader throughout the trip. They will provide lots of cultural and historical information, along with guidance on how to spend your free time.

The trip provider is Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT). They specialize in small-group travel featuring authentic local experiences as well as seeing the “big sites.” Their target market is active older adults, so you’ll get your share of walking but not as much as on the fall hiking trip.

OAT doesn’t charge a single supplement (but there are a limited number of singles available per trip, typically 4 or 5). You have the option to reserve your own flights or have OAT make flight arrangements. They offer trip insurance, or you can buy your own.

They don’t do online reservations (I know!) You have to call. Use the code at the bottom of the image or in the brochure when you call to join our group. OAT requires a $500 (per person) non-refundable deposit when you book. The balance is due 90 days before the trip begins.
