Several times a year, our geographically-dispersed club does a service project that we call “serving the world together, separately.” Our members participate by contributing in their local community.
Our project for this November and December is the “Basic Human Needs Challenge.” We’re helping to provide food, safe water, and clothing to our less fortunate neighbors.
Below are examples of what you can do in your community to make a difference:

As winter approaches in many parts of the world, there is a big need for warm clothes. Consider buying warm socks, hats, even a coat when you’re shopping. Your local shelter will put them to good use.
Or, local food shelves and shelters often need volunteers to pack and stock food or to serve meals.

Note: if you’re considering donating food from your pantry to a food shelf, take a look at the “use by” and expiration dates. The USDA has approved extensions to the dates printed on packaging. So before you toss it, maybe it’s a candidate for donation. (We always knew those dates were a little bogus, right?)

Share your participation! Our social media team is eager to share pictures of our club members helping to meet basic needs in their communities.
Submit your photos: Send an email to rotaryglobaltravelers@gmail.com with subject line Basic Needs Challenge so others can see what you are doing to make this challenge successful! Be creative – share your success with the club!
Better yet, use IGNITE to take a “Service Selfie” and record your participation. Check out this article for instructions.
